‘Thimble’ and ‘Button’ are a lovingly restored pair of quaint and charming, Grade II listed, single-storey cottages, designed specifically for couples to offer a romantic country life experience, whilst retaining their charm and quirkiness. Peacocks wander nearby, with red squirrel and deer in the woods. The properties are ideally located to explore the abundance of visitor attractions in the area, with Alnwick (the ducal town), only 4 miles away where a visit to Alnwick Castle and it’s enchanting Water Gardens is a must, not to mention the culinary delights of their Treehouse Restaurant. The Heritage Coast, with miles of golden sandy beaches, peppered with friendly villages and historic castles, is only a 20-minute drive away.

Thimble Cottage
Thimble Cottage, a Grade II listed property, is perfectly suited to couples who like the style and feel of a traditional countryside lodge. Located within the grounds of Lemmington Hall, the property boasts a tranquil setting that is ideal for exploring the beautiful surrounding area. The historic market town of Alnwick with its famous Castle and Gardens is just 4 miles away and the beautiful sandy beaches of the Northumbrian coastline a further 4 miles. To the west you can explore Cragside, Rothbury and the Northumberland National Park, all just a short journey away.
The living room has a cosy wood burning stove and French door access to the patio area with outdoor furniture and a grassed garden. Separate kitchen with a dining/breakfast table, Double bedroom with a 5 ft bed, TV and has an en-suite bathroom – with shower over bath, WC and wash basin.
The Cottage is fully equipped with lovely fluffy towels, robes and Egyptian cotton bed linen. CD/ iPod dock/Dishwasher /Microwave and Washing Machine. Your welcome pack includes milk, local bread and other goodies.
A Review from June 2022: The moment you arrive at Thimble Cottage you know you are in a very special place. It feels like you may have stumbled into Provence with this enclave nestled in rural Northumberland!.
The cottage is set in idyllic countryside with beautiful gardens and terrace to sit back and take it all in with a glass of wine. A hint of the glowing sunset glimmers through the trees in the gap between the bordering hedges which emanates out over the fields beyond in burnt amber blazing glory, creating a magnificent vista that is unique with each setting sun.
Thimble Cottage itself is such an inviting space, the walls are calming hues of blues and green and a deep, rich, decadent, but subtle peacock wallpaper in the bedroom. The novelty of having real peacocks wandering around just adds to the charm. The whole cottage and garden are immaculately curated and are the most relaxing and comfortable places to spend time in whilst holidaying in the North-East.
The wonderful host Philly who gives a very warm welcome upon arrival, is so friendly and on hand to offer help and give a wealth of local information whenever needed.
A lovely welcome basket was provided including a bottle of Prosecco, Rose, a tasty Boule loaf and Northumberland honey.
If you are looking for a secluded getaway in glorious grounds and beautifully decorated then Thimble Cottage is the place for you. The great location is a bonus, with close proximity to picturesque and quaint towns and great beaches along the coast, along with the wonderful setting in the countryside.
I could not recommend this venue highly enough and intend to return again and again!.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Button Cottage. Philly is warm and welcoming and even set up the wood burner for us when we arrived. The cottage is cosy and luxurious with lots of personal touches that make it feel more like a home from home rather than a holiday rental. The location is really peaceful and we loved waking up to the dawn chorus each morning. We found it to be a perfect base for exploring the Northumberland coast and surrounding countryside. We would love to come back in the summer when the weather is better to make full use of the garden.
